Academic Career

I received my BA in Visual/Studio Art from the University of Mary Washington in 2009. My university did not allow minors at the time, but I used an independent track to take a full complement of linguistics, writing, and literature courses that are equivalent to the standards for a minor in English.

I began freelance proofreading in college, offering my services to other students and was sought after in my art classes as an editor/proofreader for artist's statements and art history papers. I was also an active editor on a group-run art blog dedicated to documenting the work of the Visual and Performing Arts department.

Proofreading/Editing Experience and Qualifications

I acquired some minor proofreading experience while working as an administrative assistant for a government IT contracting company. The company was run by a family for whom English was a second language and they often utilized my skills to improve their contracts and technical writing before presentation to government offices.

I became a full-time, professional proofreader in May of 2014 for The Teaching Company (producer of The Great Courses). While the work is centered on marketing copy for advertising, the content itself is actually academic in nature and requires rigorous attention to facts, figures, and overall high-level presentation.

I am now the full-time copy editor for The Teaching Company and work with some of the best professors in the world. I am also a freelance book reviewer and blogger.
